Multi-Sport Event at Green Towers, June 2017

Congratulations to all of our children who represented the school at the Multi-Sport Event held recently at Green Towers in Hinckley. Our children took part in a selection of sports ranging from cricket through to rugby. Several key community organisations, such as Leicestershire County Cricket Club, attended the event and helped to put on activity stations for the pupils. Well done to all who took part!

Sporting News - 25/5/18

Recently, Burbage Juniors took part in both the Years 3/4 and Years 5/6 Tag Rugby tournaments held at Bosworth Academy (Desford) and Hinckley Academy. Both teams performed very well and should be very proud of themselves. Leicester Tigers can definitely learn a lot from the tries that were scored by our pupils!

After the Spring Half Term, the Daily Mile will be starting up. This will take place every morning (8.45am - 8.55am) on our school grounds. Overseen by our sports coach (Mr Durose) and teaching staff, this will provide our pupils with an active start to the day, giving them the opportunity to walk or run a mile before their day of learning takes place. Upon hearing the bell at the school gates, pupils will be able to walk down to the playground where they can begin their mile.

29/4/18

The last two weeks have seen a lot of sporting action:

On Monday 16th April, two of our netball teams competed in the Hinckley Area School's Netball Tournament held at Hastings High School. It was a superb occasion and our school displayed a lot of skill and teamwork. Well done to our A Team who have progressed through to the next round which will be held on Wednesday 2nd May. Good luck team!

It was the Years 3/4 TAG Rugby competition on Wednesday 18th April. In very warm conditions at Bosworth Academy, our team performed very well, allowing them to score some excellent tries. Well done to all.

Non-contact Olympic Style Boxing at Burbage Juniors!

21/3/18

On Wednesday 21st March, 10 of our pupils attended a non-contact boxing session ran by a fully-qualified coach from the Heart of England Boxing Club in Burbage. It was a fun, active session and all the children enjoyed themselves. It is good to form a closer link to another club in our local community. We look forward to working with the club again in the future.

Burbage Junior School Makes A Splash

12/3/18

On Saturday 10th March 2018, 12 of our pupils took part in the Hinckley Schools' Swimming Gala. It was a superb event with all of our swimmers performing very well. In the end, we won five finals. Burbage won the Girls' shield and the overall gala. Well done to all our swimmers who will now compete in the County Finals Gala in June.

Burbage Junior School Wins Gold!

Burbage Junior School has received the 'Gold School Games Mark'. This is a tremendous achievement. The award recognises our excellent provision of PE and sport. Last year, large numbers of our children participated in extra-curricular sports led by our teachers and coaching staff. Furthermore, many pupils went on to represent the school in a variety of sporting competitions. Sport is a fantastic way of helping our pupils learn about the principles of teamwork and competition as well as helping them to understand the importance of leading healthy lifestyles. Well done to all! We look forward to another successful year of PE and sport.

Football

On Tuesday 3rd March, our Year 6 Ricebowl team played Badgerbrook Primary School in the Quarter Finals of the competition. Despite losing, our boys put in a very good performance against extremely strong opponents.

The Hinckley & Bosworth Football League was held this year on three separate evenings at John Cleveland College. Our boys played very well and picked up 14 points from 8 league matches. They finished third in the final results table. Well done boys.

Cross Country

Well done to all the children who have represented the school at cross country this academic year.

County Cross County Championships

On Saturday 21st March, the Leicestershire Schools' County Cross Country Championships were held at Donington Park. Three of our children were selected to run for Hinckley & Bosworth: Isobel Weikert-Picker and Alice Moore in the Year 3 Girls' race and Harry Whitelegg in the Year 6 Boys' race. Well done to all three children who put in great performances on what was a very windy day.

Table Tennis

Team Table Tennis

Well done to our players who represented the school in the Zone Stage of the Butterfly Schools National Team Championships in Grantham. Our boys' team made it through to the semi finals with some excellent performances.

At the same tournament, our girls' squad finished runners up in their age group. As a result, they qualified for the Regional Stage of the Championships held at Blackburn on Saturday 21st March. The standard was incredibly high and our girls put in great performances to finish in 3rd place in their age group.

Congratulations to both teams.

Individual Table Tennis

The school was exceptionally well represented at the recent County Individual Championships at Leicester Grammar School. Our players took several of the top places with Kian Todd finishing runner up in the boys' event and Frankie Hallam winning the girls' competition. Frankie will now go on to play in the National Individual Championships. Congratulations to all who took part.

Swimming

This year's Hinckley & Bosworth Area Gala took place on Monday 9th March. A good number of schools participated and it was a closely fought contest. Our squad put in some great performances, allowing us to win the overall competition for the fourth year running. Congratulations to all twelve swimmers.

School Council - Park and Stride

Our School Council has been busy this term, meeting several times and getting involved with different projects.

Recently a member of Leicestershire County Council's Sustainable Transport Office came to talk to our School Council about the Park and Stride Initiative. The councillors reported back to their classes on the scheme as well as introducing the County Council's Park and Stride poster competition. Huge congratulations to Maisie Grindrod in Year 3 whose entry was judged to be the overall winner. Maisie's poster will be printed onto a banner and placed at the front of the school to encourage people to Park and Stride. Well done Maisie!
